1 3 - 1 1 - 2 0 0 6 Mystery over bodybuilder's death
WiganToday.net
A POLICE probe has been launched after the death of a second Wigan bodybuilder in less than a month.
The girlfriend of Tony Greenhalgh found him collapsed at her home in Chapel Fields Lane, Hindley.
The death of the 32-year-old, who was a joiner by trade but entered body-building competitions as a hobby, is not being treated as suspicious although pathology tests are continuing into possible causes.
His partner Donna Dixon is being comforted by family as was his mum Irene Greenhalgh. The coroner has been informed.
Neighbours said they had seen a flurry of police activity at Miss Dixon's house on Sunday but did not know what had happened and were unaware that Mr Greenhalgh had been staying there.
The tragedy came exactly a fortnight after the death of another bodybuilder, former doorman Aidan Collins. The 37-year-old of Wardlow Avenue, Kitt Green, died at an address in Heath Road, Ashton. A post-mortem examination has proved inconclusive and while again foul play has been ruled out, further tests are being carried out to determine the cause of death.
A police spokesman said: "We are keeping open minds on both deaths but while there are certain similar circumstances surrounding them there do not appear to be any links at present. It could be an unfortunate coincidence but we are ruling nothing out at this stage."
