Rome - Italian police say they have seized eighty race horses doped with performance-enhancing drugs, including Viagra, on Monday at an illegal hippodrome, near Naples. '
Police said they seized 10 000 packages of illegal drugs, including sexual hormones, anabolic steroids and painkillers, at an unauthorised hippodrome and training centre for race horses in Marigliano, some 27km east of Naples.
Police said at least 38 people, including horse owners, vets and pharmacists were being investigated, suspected of doping the horses for racing.
The statement said the drugs were believed to come from the United States, Australia, China, Romania and Spain. Police said the overall value of the drugs, horses and property seized was nearly $6.32m.
