San Mateo Daily Journal
Friday February 25, 2005
An Indian wrestler allegedly found with 40 containers of anabolic steroids
at San Francisco International Airport will learn next week if he’ll stand
trial.
Kuljeet Singh, 23, was arrested by U.S. Customs agents on Valentine’s Day
as he returned from a visit to India. Singh, an Indian national who
resides in Petaluma, had been in India competing in a wrestling
tournament.
Customs agents and officers from the Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement
reported finding 20 containers of anabolic steroids in his luggage.
The pills and liquid ampoules included mesterolone and testosterone.
Mesterolone is typically used for reducing levels of estrogen in the body
or reducing the effects of estrogen such as bloating. Also known by the
name Proviron, it is a derivative of testosterone and is also used when
the levels of testosterone in the body are below normal. The hormone is
listed among prohibited supplements by many international athletic
associations.
Singh was charged with two felonies and has pleaded not guilty. He is
scheduled for a preliminary hearing on the evidence March 2.
Singh is in custody in lieu of $1 million bail.

By Michelle Durand
San Mateo Daily Journal
Saturday August 13 2005
An Indian wrestler allegedly found with 40 containers of anabolic
steroids at San Francisco International Airport pleaded no contest
to one felony on Friday, just days before his scheduled jury trial
on the charges.
Kuljeet Singh, 23, had already declined one previously offered plea
bargain and was headed to trial on two felony charges. If convicted,
he faced up to three years in prison. On Friday morning, Singh
changed his plea to no contest on a single charge but prosecutors
did not disclose the terms of the arrangement. Singh will be
formally sentenced Sept. 28 following the review of a probation
report.
Singh was arrested by U.S. Customs agents on Valentine’s Day as he
returned from a visit to India. Singh, an Indian national who
resides in Northern California, had been in India competing in a
wrestling tournament.
Customs agents and officers from the Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement
reported finding 20 containers of anabolic steroids in his luggage.
The pills and liquid capsules included mesterolone and testosterone.
Singh was originally arrested on $1 million bail but the amount was
lowered to $40,000. Singh is currently out of custody on that bail
bond.
