ABC30.com
A local high school volleyball coach is in jail, charged with having sex with teenage boys.
Fresno police arrested 38-year-old Frank Perez, better known as Sonny, and his friend, 52-year-old Bill Bimat, on Thursday.
Investigators say Perez was a coach at San Joaquin Memorial and a former volunteer with the Fresno City College volleyball team.
Police say they received a tip that the two men were having sex with teenage boys and the arrests came after a two week investigation. Police say the arrest was made at an apartment complex in northwest Fresno at 8:00am Thursday morning.
Lieutenant Dave Belluomini, from the Fresno Police Department, says authorities made a big discovery during their search, "During the search warrant, we did come across some controlled substance. Steroids are a controlled substance and we've solicited the help of our narcotics unit."
Steve Reinert visits his young nephews who live in the same complex, and news of the high school coach's arrest is unsettling, "That's the part that really concerns me, is someone who can be in a leadership authority to young children."
Police will not say how many boys are involved, but ask that anyone with more information please come forward.
In the meantime, they are working with the victims that have come forward. Action News spoke with members of the Fresno City College volleyball team and they have no comment, other than they think Perez is a great guy.
