He believes the biggest growth area at Athens will be the use of genetic drugs “a new breed of drugs” which actually change the genetic makeup of the body.
There has not been any evidence yet of athletes using the drugs which are being developed in medical labs to conquer conditions such as muscle-wasting diseases. But Mr Brewer says although the drugs have not been tested and are still in their infancy they “are almost certainly being used”.
“You should never underestimate the willingness of athletes to experiment on their own bodies in their desperation to win.”
Some commentators have argued that if the International Olympic Committee is fighting a losing battle why not let athletes do what they want to their own bodies?
Mr Brewer says if drugs were allowed it would be difficult to control when athletes start taking them. “You could get a situation where parents are giving them to their kids.”

'Joe Weider en Robert Kennedy zijn bodybuilders van niks'

  Hebben Joe en Ben Weider wel eens zelf getraind? Vragen Gordanio en Peter North op GetBig.com zich af. Of Robert Kennedy? Waar halen ze het recht vandaan om bodybuilders te vertellen wat ze moeten doen? Akelige maar verhelderende discussie, waarin weer een smerig geheim over de chemische bodybuilding naar boven komt. "Has Robert Kennedy ever competed or anything like that?", post Peter North op Aug 09, 2004. "He definitely doesn't look like someone that should be giving advice about training and nutrition. He should be giving advice to senior citizens on how to bang young people."

"I was just thinking of something similar the other day, but in regards to Joe & Ben Weider", reageert Giordano op Aug 09, 2004. "Has either one EVER lifted weight or competed? I have yet to see ONE picture where the Weider's look like they were ever in decent shape."

Ook Tim Fogarty, de man achter de website MuscleMemory.com, vindt de kritiek op Joe Weider onterecht. Op Aug 09, 2004 schrijft hij:

"Joe Weider entered only one bodybuilding contest in his life, the 1951 NABBA Universe, came in 5th in the tall class." [Link]

"All his magazine covers are there too. The first mag is the only actual photo. The next three are drawings that may be idealized. In the articles section, I have one on him entering the Universe." [Link]

Richard2004 ergert zich aan de kritiek die de GetBiggers spuien over de fysiek van Weider. Op Aug 10, 2004 post hij:

"The general audience here apparently doesn't realize that there are actually other goals in life besides loading up on illegal drugs in an effort to "get bigger muscles than one can training naturally", living in the gym, living off the gay community, and just pursing "bodybuilding fame," etc. In other words, goals like getting a good education, pursuing a financially rewarding career, starting a family and trying to have natural children."

"The parameters of that test we are keeping to ourselves for the moment because I see no advantage of giving anyone who is cheating any indication about the likelihood of the reach-back period. I’d rather see them faced with a very unpleasant surprise if they try it here."
