1 0 - 0 2 - 2 0 0 5 County couple arrested, charged in steroid ring
Thursday, February 10, 2005 ALLOWAY TWP. -- A local couple were arrested last month and charged in a steroid ring, authorities said. Donald Hoblitzell allegedly received large amounts of anabolic steroids through the mail, according to a statement released by the Salem County Prosecutor's Office Wednesday. Authorities said they suspect that he obtained them through the Internet. Those steroids later were distributed through Salem County, authorities alleged. Aside from seizing quantities of drugs, authorities raided the couple's home and took computer equipment. He and his wife, Carol, 40, were arrested Jan. 28. Authorities said they arrested her on her way home after she made a pickup from the post office. They added they still are investigating to determine who the supplier was. Donald Hoblitzell, 41, is charged with possession of anabolic steroids, possession with the intent to distribute anabolic steroids, conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids and possession of hypodermic syringes. He could get up to 10 years in state prison if convicted at trial. His wife was charged with conspiracy to possess anabolic steroids. She could get up to five years in state prison if convicted at trial. The Salem County Prosecutor's Office, the New Jersey State Police and the U.S. Postal Inspector's Office worked on the case. Salem County Prosecutor John T. Lenahan rejected a notion that steroid use is a victimless crime. "The use and distribution of anabolic steroids throughout the county is a serious concern," Lenahan said in a statement. "This arrest should help curtail the problem and put others who traffic in steroids on notice."
