TWISTED squaddie David Atkinson left a suicide note admitting the murder of Sally Geeson, it was revealed last night. Police also confirmed he sexually assaulted 22-year-old Sally, an identical twin, before killing her early on New Year’s Day. A former girlfriend of Atkinson told how the serial sex predator — who has been pictured for the first time — tried to rape her after they split up. Royal Engineer Atkinson, 31, set himself alight and leapt to his death from a sixth-floor Glasgow hotel last Saturday, hours after cops found Sally’s body near Cambridge. She had been asphyxiated. Detective Superintendent Garry Swain said: “We now know that Sally was murdered by Lance Corporal David Atkinson in the early hours of Saturday, January 1. “There is also evidence that Atkinson sexually assaulted Sally. A letter, which we believe was written by him, was found in his room at the hotel in Glasgow. It indicates that he killed a female. “This note, together with forensic evidence, means I am satisfied that Atkinson was Sally’s killer. I am also satisfied that there was no third party involvement.” The detective confirmed that some of Sally’s clothes were found next to her body in a copse in Madingley last Friday. But her phone, denim brown-strapped handbag, brown high-heeled shoes and knickers are still missing. Mr Swain said Atkinson may have discarded them as he fled Cambridgeshire for Scotland after torching his barracks bedroom. Sally was killed after a New Year’s Eve night out. She sent text messages to friends saying she had got into someone’s car and pleaded “Help me.” Victim ... Sally Det Supt Swain went on: “Atkinson was in Cambridge at the same time. He was driving his H-registration green Range Rover.” He said Scotsman Atkinson’s car was caught on CCTV in the city at around 1.23am. And he added: “We have CCTV images that show Sally trying to hail a taxi at 1.30am. “We don’t know exactly what happened next, but I think Atkinson was driving around Cambridge. I believe he picked up Sally. We don’t know exactly where he killed her.” Mr Swain said a taxi driver told police a green Range Rover tried to force him off the road near Madingley at 3.10am. It is thought the driver was Atkinson on his way to Scotland. A member of staff at Glasgow’s Corus Hotel said Atkinson spent his last night drinking and watching porn in his room. He became so drunk the barman refused to serve him. Last night detectives across Britain were interviewing women who claim they were victims of Atkinson’s sexual rages. The martial arts expert took body-building drugs known to spark aggression. Det Supt Swain said: “A number of women have come forward. At least one claimed Atkinson attempted to abduct her while driving around.” Ex-girlfriend ... Rebecca Chorley Secretary Rebecca Chorley told how he lured her into his car and tried to rape her. Rebecca, 24, of Chatham, Kent, dated him for a month while he was stationed near her home. After they split up he was waiting for her in his car one night when she left a club. She said: “It gives me chills just thinking of him sitting there, knowing what I know about him now. “He offered to drive me home but parked up and tried to kiss me. I told him, ‘No, stop!’. “He pushed back my seat and pounced on top of me. I tried to open the door, but he locked it. I was terrified.” Eventually Atkinson gave up the attack but Rebecca added: “I’m lucky to be alive. I could have been the one he killed.” Fellow soldiers in Mönchengladbach, Germany, where Atkinson served for five years, called him an “utter weirdo”. While there he was court-martialled for holding a girl in a hotel after she got into his car. He was fined £1,000 for false imprisonment. He was often in trouble for drunkenness and failing to obey orders. He married a beautiful blonde German but she accused him of attacking her. One squaddie said: “People used to steer clear of him. He did not have many mates.”

Squaddie Daniel Smith, who was in the passenger seat of David Atkinson's car on New Year's eve, said: 'He seemed to go into some kind of trance, gawping at all the girls in their party dresses. 'He gripped the steering wheel with both hands and rocked back and forward in his seat saying, 'Look at all the f***ing women'. 'At the time, I didn't think anything of it but looking back, it makes my blood run cold.' Daniel claims fitness freak Atkinson was taking a cocktail of bodybuilding drugs in the weeks before he killed Sally. And he told how the sick squaddie had groped a girl in a lay-by weeks before Sally was killed. Daniel added: 'He was a mate but I'm glad he is dead.' Drug may fuel rages

THE performance-boosting drug Atkinson took can cause extreme agitation and bizarre behaviour.
Ephedrine, which is banned in sport, is a stimulant which acts on the nervous system to speed up the brain and body.
In correct doses it is a useful medicine and can improve alertness and reactions. But side effects include a racing pulse, anxiety, insomnia and shakes. In large doses ephedrine can lead to psychotic behaviour and impulsive actions, such as sudden violence or suicide.
Bodybuilding ex-US Marine David Bieber, jailed for life for shooting dead PC Ian Broadhurst in Leeds, was addicted to muscle-enhancing drugs and proteins similar to those used by Atkinson.
Ephedrine can also cause heart problems, high blood pressure and strokes.
Creatine is an amino acid, a type of protein and one of the few legal substances which works in building up muscle strength.
Sun GP Dr Carol Cooper said: “These drugs are a potentially lethal mix. Creatine can give you extra strength — ephedrine could make you use it violently.”

M4 rapist JOHN STEED got life in 1986 for three rapes and a murder. His sexual appetite became uncontrollable after he started injecting steroids.
Keep-fit fanatic PETER CHMILOWSKYJ was sent to Broadmoor indefinitely in 1987 for kidnapping and raping two girls.
DAVID LASHLEY — who murdered Australian heiress Janie Shepherd in 1976 — was known as the most violent man in the prison system because of his obsessive bodybuilding.
Steroid abuser THOMAS DUNCAN was jailed for life in 2000 after battering his three-year-old stepdaughter to death.
Former US Marine DAVID BIEBER — jailed for life for shooting dead PC Ian Broadhurst in 2003 — was addicted to steroids.
