KILLERS THOUGHT THEY WERE ABOVE LAW.. SARWAR DIDN'T

THE HORRIFYING MURDER WHICH PUT FAMILY IN FIRING LINE FOR GANGSTERS' DEATH THREATS

THE gang who tortured and murdered Kriss Donald thought they were above the law.

Led by steroid-fuelled bodybuilder Imran "Baldy" Shahid, they terrorised their community and made a fortune from identity theft.

As the police net closed in on them after Kriss's murder, 29-year-old Baldy fled to Pakistan with brother Zeeshan, 28 - nicknamed Crazy - and sidekick Mohammed Faisal Mushtaq, 27, who was known as Becks.

They thought they were safe. But they hadn't reckoned on the determination of Strathclyde Police and local MP Mohammad Sarwar.

They tracked the killers halfway round the world to bring them to justice, a quest which ended with them being given life sentences last November.

But even from behind bars the murdering thugs have continued to wield their poisonous influence on their community.

A source on Glasgow's south side said: "They terrorised this area for years and they still haunt the place even though they've been put away.

"The ringleader, Baldy, is still pulling the strings in Pollokshields and is still trying to run his empire.

"He's as feared as he ever was and everyone knows he can still put the word out and you're marked."

Baldy was caged last November for Kriss's murder and will serve at least 25 years before being eligible for parole.

His brother will serve at least 23 years and Mushtaq at least 22.

They joined Daanish "Ferrari" Zahid, 20 - who was given life with a minimum 17 years for murder at an earlier hearing - in jail.

Zahid "Ziggy" Mohammed, 20, had been jailed for five years for abduction.

The trial was told the gang grabbed Kriss off the street near his Glasgow home in March 2004, and took him on a nightmare car journey where they tortured then murdered him - just because he was white.

His lifeless, burned body was found on the Clyde Walkway the day after he was kidnapped.

The 15-year-old had been stabbed 13 times and set on fire.

The gang had gone out on a mission to find the white youths who had thrown a bottle outside a club the night before, hitting Baldy.

In a murderous rage, he had vowed to find the boys responsible and "chop them up and take their eyes out".

Next day, the gang headed for Pollokshields in a stolen Mercedes, looking for a victim.

Kriss and his pal Jamie Wallace, now 21, who were not involved in the nightclub attack, were walking along Kenmure Street, yards from Kriss's home, in broad daylight.

Baldy spotted the two friends and announced that he was going to "do them".

The car screamed to a halt and the gang tried to drag Kriss and Jamie inside.

Jamie struggled free. Kriss, who only weighed nine stone, wasn't so lucky.

A WOMAN passer-by saw him clinging to the roof of the Mercedes, pleading: "I'm only 15! What did I do?"

Kriss was punched repeatedly and the pitiless ringleader shouted in his face: "I'm Baldy! Nobody f***s with me!"

The murderers took Kriss on a four-hour journey of terror around Scotland before heading for a patch of ground in the east end of Glasgow, stopping on the way to buy a can of petrol.

Kriss was bundled from the car, held by the arms and stabbed over and over again.

His injuries would have been enough to kill him, but the gang were not satisfied.

As he lay bleeding, the killers doused him in petrol and set him alight.

Screaming in agony, Kriss staggered, rolled or crawled several yards from the scene. A passer-by discovered his body the next morning.

After the murder, Baldy, Crazy and Becks flew to Pakistan, knowing that the country had no extradition treaty with Britain.

They were finally returned to Scotland in October last year, thanks greatly to the efforts of MP Sarwar.

After the murderers were jailed, the Record revealed they ran one of Britain's biggest identity-fraud scams and used the cash they made to support themselves while on the run.

Our investigators also learned that when Baldy was arrested in the Pakistani city of Lahore, he offered police a £175,000 bribe to let him go.

The thug is still involved in running his lucrative credit card fraud scam despite being locked up.

A source in Pollokshields claimed the Shielders" gang's activities were common knowledge.

THE source said: "Baldy, Crazy and Becks are involved. Baldy is in charge, he's always in charge. Even though he's still in prison, he's got lots of contacts outside.

"Ten or 12 people are involved. They are making up to a million pounds a year."

All the killers have lengthy criminal records - with Baldy noted for his sadistic streak.

He was jailed for four-and-a-half years in 1995 for attacking a man with a baseball bat. And he was freed from a 30-month sentence for serious assault three months before Kriss's murder.

Last year, we revealed the killers wanted a transfer to Wakefield jail in Yorkshire because of its large Asian population and proximity to family members.

The prison is home to some of Britain's most infamous inmates, including Soham beast Ian Huntley.

Baldy and his gang are a security nightmare for the Scottish Prison Service and will be transferred from jail to jail throughout the duration of their sentences so their routine does not become known.

In January, we revealed Baldy was willing to stump up £10,000 a year to try to save himself from revenge attacks in prison.

The fiend knows he is a target in Scottish jails and hoped £200 a week would guarantee his safety - but there were no takers. He has spent his time in prison so far in segregation units.

On Tuesday last week, one of Baldy's lieutenants was believed to be behind an alleged drive-by shooting in Pollokshields.

Ball-bearings are said to have been fired at two men in a van - missing them by inches - as they sat at traffic lights.
