2 6 - 0 1 - 2 0 0 7 Dad jailed for assaulting 2-year-old
Irishhealth.com A 19-year-old man who beat his two-year-old daughter so badly that he left a handprint on her body, has been sentenced to four years in jail. The Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that the man had been a drug addict for the last seven years, but had 'no wish for treatment'. It is understood that he had been using anabolic steroids for some time before the assault. The man, who was separated from the mother of the child, had been looking after the two-year-old in his north Dublin apartment. When he returned the child to the mother, she noticed severe bruising and brought the child to Temple Street Children's Hospital, where it was confirmed that the injuries were not accidental. He pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting the child. Judge Frank O'Donnell described the incident as a 'very aggressive assault' and an 'unprovoked attack' on the man's own child 'whom he should have been protecting'. The 19-year-old, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the child, was sentenced to four years in prison. |
