Canseco tome hits homerun with H'wood
By CHRIS GARDNER
Jose Canseco's sports tell-all "Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits and How Baseball Got Big" is being prepped for the bigscreen.
Production/management shingle Nine Yards Entertainment has optioned the rights to the book and will produce with Canseco.
Scribe Kipp Marcus has been hired to adapt the book, which details the baseballer's use of performance-enhancing anabolic steroids starting as a player in his 20s with a small-time farm team and ending up as a star with the Oakland Athletics. He was named the 1988 American League MVP.
The book debuted with controversy last year because Canseco not only details his own personal use of steroids but alleges that he introduced the illegal drug to other baseball's big names, including Mark McGwire. Canseco, one of baseball's first bad boys, credits his use of steroids with giving him the career he had.
Nine Yards sparked to the book and pacted with Canseco to develop a script. Canseco read a Buster Keaton biopic penned by Marcus and hired him to adapt "Juiced." Marcus' other credits include "Snow Days."
