Sylvester Stallone, the brawn behind Rocky and Rambo, is heading for a beefy role in a new men's magazine.

The tough-talking thesp will lend his name and image to the start-up pub, to be dubbed simply Sly.

The glossy is set to be launched by American Media Inc.--publishers of The National Enquirer and Star--in January. It will be a monthly magazine, focusing on health and fitness with a target demographic of men in the 35- to 54-year old range.

"We know that Sylvester will be actively involved in the editorial process every month," AMI spokesman Stu Zakim told Agence France-Presse wire service. "The idea is to provide a good product to a large number of male readers who are really not serviced by other magazines at the moment."

AMI and Stallone's reps said it had not yet been decided whether Stallone's mug will grace Sly's cover will each month.

Branching out into the publishing world puts Stallone in the company of celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, who lends her name and face to the successful magazine, O; the recently incarcerated Martha Stewart, who fronts several magazines, most notably Martha Stewart Living; Rosie O'Donnell, who offered up her name to the failed publication, Rosie; and Donald Trump, who slapped his name on the recently launched Trump World.

The magazine isn't the actor's first foray into merchandising. In May, he launched a line of nutritional supplements through his Instone company, including Intake Go, a low carb pudding, designed to up energy levels and Forza-T, a product designed to increase testosterone levels.

Last month, Stallone lost a bid to have a suit by ex-boxer Chuck Wepner tossed out of court. Wepner, who served as the inspiration for the Rocky franchise, claims that Stallone promised to compensate him for adapting his life story for the big screen.

Meanwhile, NBC's boxing-themed reality show, The Contender, is scheduled to debut in January, with Stallone set to hop in the ring as host. The Mark Burnett-produced show will feature amateur boxers competing against each other for a $1 million purse and the chance to turn pro.
