2 3 - 0 3 - 2 0 0 6 Area man pleads guilty to 21 charges from steroids
Times Recorder ZANESVILLE - A 29-year-old New Concord man pleaded guilty to 21 counts of felony drug charges after being arrested last summer in one of the county's biggest anabolic steroid drug busts. Richard Scott Reed was arrested after detectives with the Muskingum County Sheriff's Department executed four separate search warrants that yielded 16,900 unit doses of anabolic steroid drugs and 500 unit doses of dangerous drugs, according to officers. The estimated street value of the drugs is $348,000.
The investigation revealed Reed was receiving the drugs through the
New Concord Post Office and Box and Mail in Zanesville. The packages
were being sent from Moscow, Russia. While investigators were unable to determine who the drugs were being sold to, Detective Todd Kanavel said at the time of the arrest that steroids were most closely associated with athletics. Steroids are typically sold in pill or vial form at $20 per injection or $200 for a vial. Reed had been arrested and convicted on charges of domestic violence in 1999 and 2000 in Guernsey County. He has no prior drug convictions. A presentence investigation was ordered by the court. |
