By ZACH HABERMAN A Brooklyn man convicted of smuggling illegal steroids into the country and selling them to bodybuilders nationwide was sentenced to more than three years in prison yesterday. Luk Tam pleaded guilty in October to conspiring to ship the body-bulking drugs from China after the feds seized 26 boxes of steroids when they arrived at JFK Airport in 2004. Tam would often replace the Chinese packaging labels with similar ones from Mexico so weightlifters believed they were getting a "higher-quality, higher-priced, less dangerous" product, said prosecutor Charles Kleinberg. Brooklyn federal Judge Nicholas Garaufis sentenced Tam to 42 months behind bars. |
