AAP CUSTOMS officers have seized 1000 steroid tablets mailed from the United Kingdom to Adelaide. The pink tablets were found in a parcel at the Adelaide International Mail Centre yesterday. The parcel was addressed to an Adelaide home. Customs SA regional director Virginia Lynch today said investigations were continuing and charges were expected to be laid soon. The Adelaide discovery follows three separate seizures of performance and image enhancing drugs in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne in recent weeks. Ms Lynch said Customs was serious about cracking down on such drugs in the lead-up to the Commonwealth Games, although there was no evidence to suggest the drugs seized were bound for Melbourne for use by athletes. She said the maximum penalty for illegally importing steroids was five years imprisonment or a $110,000 fine. Home raided over performance-enhancing drugs
ABC Customs officials have raided an Adelaide home after they allegedly discovered steroids in a package at the Adelaide International Mail Centre. One-thousand pink tablets thought to be the performance-enhancing drug Dianabol were allegedly found in late November in a package sent from the United Kingdom. As a result, officers searched a house at Mile End yesterday and say they expect to lay charges. It is illegal to import performance-enhancing drugs without permission from the Therapeutic Goods Administration. The Customs Service says there is no evidence to suggest the drugs were bound for Melbourne for use by athletes competing in the Commonwealth Games. |
