Monday, October 3, 2005 WARWICK -- An employee of a Post Road sports bar was arrested Thursday afternoon after he sold $800 in anabolic steroids to an undercover police detective, the police said. Daniel J. Prata, 31, of 93 Riverside Ave., was arrested at his family's business, the Prata Bar and Grill, 1599 Post Rd., at about 4:30 p.m., according to the police. He was charged with delivery of steroids and possession of steroids, and was later released on cash bail set by a bail commissioner. A felony screening is scheduled for Nov. 7. An undercover detective from the Newport Police Department arranged to meet with Prata that afternoon, the police said. The Warwick police provided her with $800, and agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and other Newport detectives took up positions inside the bar to watch the sale, the police said. Prata handed her a restaurant "to-go" box containing 400 milliliters of steroids, the police said. After the detective left the bar, officers arrested Prata and recovered the cash, the police said. Prata's Nissan Maxima was also searched by officers, where 46 tablets of another type of steroid, and needles and syringes were found, the police said. |
